These songs were recorded in two sessions fall 1996 and spring 1997 in Adriana's basement by Jim Rhabak and Dandee Flemming, except for Re-engineering the Train Yard, which may have been recorded in the abandoned Albuquerque Train Yard building with battery operated recording equipment and multiple percussionists running the length of the building to keep the rhythms and sustains ringing, just so.

Scissors = Freedom was a metaphor derived from the Brothers Quay film “Street of Crocodiles,” the idea of cutting the strings from marionettes and puppets, we people, to free ourselves. Musically, as much as anything else.
